Inspired by the work of John Cage who expressed the wish to listen to the sounds of everything, even the sounds of molecules within an ordinary object. 'Portal' uses an interactive whiteboard as a 'musical instrument' to play the sounds of the Universe. The sounds activated are the sounds of space as detected by NASA space instruments and radio telescopes. Audio used is courtesy of the University of Iowa, NASA and the Jodrell Bank Observatory. No visuals are used to hold true to the concept of the sounds of the Universe being inherent in everything.
